Health and Safety Inspector
Our client focuses on three main operations, Electrical, Civil Construction and Engineering & Design. They provide quality solutions to public utilities, municipalities and developers, as well as to industrial, national and international manufacturing companies across the GTA.
Health and Safety Inspector evaluates, monitors, and reports on environmental health and safety hazards from various job sites in the City of Toronto. They conduct field safety inspections daily, perform incident investigations, ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all applicable legislative requirements; ensuring overall safety for workers and the public. Health and Safety Inspector participates actively and maintains ongoing relations with field workers, Forepersons, Supervisors and Management.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring the safety of all workers, forepersons, supervisors, management and the public on various job sites throughout the City of Toronto by educating and enforcing best safe work practices and application of all rules and regulations
- Deploy to the jobnsite, in the event of an incident to conduct an investigation which includes, but is not limited to: recording statements, photographing incident scene(s), identifying root cause and possible prevent recurrence actions, and preparing report accordingly
- Conduct documented facility and building inspections for all company facilities, to ensure equipment, materials, and production processes do not present an environmental, health, and/or safety hazard to employees or the general public
- Conduct documented field inspections, for all company job sites to ensure that equipment, materials and production processes do not present a safety or health hazard to employees or to the general public
- Capability to audit safety practices at all levels of the organization (worker, supervisory, and management)
- Responsible for conducting subcontractor and new worker orientation sessions
- Assist in ordering Personal Protective Equipment for workers, supervisors, and management staff
- Facilitate in-house training under the direction of the EHS Department Manager
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a College Diploma or University Degree in a related field; Occupational Health and Safety is preferred
- A Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Field Safety Inspector, Safety Auditor or Safety Compliance Officer or other related role in a large construction company preferably utility, natural gas or telecommunications construction required
- Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract required
- Extensive knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety rules and regulations for construction is required; including but not limited to: Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Electrical Utility Safety Association rules (EUSR), and the Environmental Protection Act (EPA)
- Experience working in ISO and COR certified environments is considered an asset
- Must be able to work outdoors in adverse conditions such as: heat exposure, cold temperatures, rain, snow etc.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office required
- Have exceptional attention to detail with the ability to read, comprehend and utilize company policies and procedures when providing information to internal and external groups required
- Ability to gather, collect, assess and report critical information to management required
- Proven ability to resolve conflicts and diffuse stressful situations while maintaining the highest level of professionalism required
